After 65 Years

By Milton P. Ehrlich

After 65 Years

I remember so well how you seduced me
with the aurora of your smile that ignited
a fire in me that still burns for you alone.
You created a savory baked souffle that rose
with the rest of me in your mother's kitchen.
I galloped toward you and left my heart sealed
in your lovely bones for the enormous present.
There are no words in the English language
gargantuan enough to convey my love for you.
I'm still hopelessly smitten by you at 90
as much as you smote me when you were 25.
I still romance you with my well of persistence
and am overwhelmed to be in a moment with you
that never ends -- a celestial gift from the Gods.
