A February Romance

By Elizabeth V. Koshy

A February Romance

The sun paints the western verge
In yellow, amber, orange, red and rose.
Spellbound by the breathtaking display,
We walk uphill, to our rocky outcrop overlooking the city.
Venus shines like a lantern against the violet sky.
Shining brighter than Sirius right above
Jupiter holds Venus in a steady gaze.
We sit enthralled by their magical chemistry.

The moon, a smiling sliver of a silver boat sails
Between the twosome one evening.
She waxes right above Jupiter the following night
Forming a pretty ornament for the deep blue sky.
As the fortnight progresses, the moon sails further away
Leaving Jupiter and Venus alone.
Late every night, the pair dip below the western verge
As Orion takes centre stage with his bow, his starry belt askew.

We look forward to the celestial show every evening
And watch the actors play out their parts.
Jupiter and Venus above and you and me here below.
The February romance on the western verge
Inspires, ignites and deepens our bond.
We sit for hours watching them and the city lights.
The silence of the night fills our hearts and minds
With the music of the stars.

Beautiful imagery. As I read the words, I felt like I was sitting underneath the sky experiencing all that the writer imagined. And I wondered who was sitting next to me!
