I Did Not Expect You To Die After Jeopardy

I Did Not Expect You to Die After Jeopardy

We were on Alex Trebeck alert -- fatal diagnosis.
We watched for any cracks in his pancake makeup armor finding none,
we had the correct question for final,
who knew we knew so much about Asian geography?

I was not prepared for you to go.
So many times, I threatened to leave you,
to take the kids and go who knows where --
but we always made a patched quilt out of our differences.

It looked like pizza indigestion,
a dramatic dissertation.
I did not know that heart clutching meant real danger,
you had no right to keel over

and die like that
on a weekday evening
after take out
and the sky, that teased all day,
finally broke its water
birthed an historic storm of which you were deemed a fatality.
