Beyond Your Yes and No

In large measure
I long to exist
beyond
your "Yes"
and your "No"

(how I loathe
your arrogance!)

and don't I?

haven't I said "Yes"
where you said "No"
and "No"
where you said "Yes"?

I puff my chest
at how well
I've endured the schism
all these years

the internal chasm
is an abyss
between us

"a lesser man
would've snapped"
I think

with a grimace
that aspires
to be a smile
