Birth Right

Birth Rights

He was born brown with a predisposition to high blood pressure and hard times
She was born white with a presumption of beauty, goodness, and grace

He carried a knife to school for self-defense
She inherited the crown of homecoming queen

He fought brown-skinned people in foreign lands
She gave birth to the future fair-skinned leaders

He refused to stand for the national hymn

She will never understand him
or the rights that create wrongs
