Lovely Mercury

By Rehanul Hoque

Lovely Mercury

The moment that billions of stars beacon
My mind remains obsessed with you.

Long ago, I could steal a glance at your beautiful eyes

That was the turning point I knew you were meant for me

You are mercury -- your motion accumulated from the infinite
Render you unique features in the universe

Words fail to describe your beauty but I spin a tale of love
Hundreds of love letters bear witness to that sizzling affair

Still today.

In course of time the love letters turn as distant memories

Of a recluse

Now the lonely man composes Epicedium
-- I smile a little because this is way of the world

At the sound of music listless leaves fall off in silence
Dreams attired in grey join the crimson festival of horizon
Birds go on singing songs
Time is awoken
Throughout its life two arms of a clock make angular entreaties

To win your heart

Unfortunately it becomes an instance of unrequited love

But I don't care --

I'm a worshiper of beauty, not a lover

Through a regular rise and setting of the sun
Much alluring and glamorous a beauty you may seem to appear

I'm not allured since

Your beauty is but my sovereignty.
