Under a Full Moon

By Milton P. Ehrlich

Under a Full Moon

The hum of the universe
and the mother I loved
seep into my bedroom
in the middle of the night.
She carries a sack of wheat
and proceeds to grind it
to bake chapati bread.
She offers it to me with
mushroom vindaloo --
saying I didn't want you
to ever go hungry.
Now eat! Don't you know
many children in the world
are still starving?
