The Evening TV News
She never missed the main evening news,
it was as if she were hunched into the newscast
but then that hour had its share of dusky dramas.
At worst it always ended in teary, brutal bitterness,
at best, in a series of probes, protests, prayers and petitions.
“What have we done to earn this bane instead of Canaan?”
Her distressed children pondered why she viewed it
because almost always during every news hour
she had a wretched , worried and weepy unrest.
Was today any different? – hell no –with its circus
of delayed appearances, appointments and disappointments,
a clear clannish cabinet, coupled with praises and pomposities!
She watched it all and carped “Look at these cruel clowns now? Nx!
No real jobs but folly, just a show of dynastic, cliquish mess!”
After the news, she bowed down and ruefully begged for sanity.
