The Foyer

By John Tustin

The Foyer

When I think about you now
There is always a storm and the wind.
Lightning and thunder, the music silenced.

The lights flicker on and off.
The room is cold. The sheets are cold.
I go in the darkness to the foyer where we used to meet with a kiss –

Your umbrella, your galoshes are dripping there and
Your smell, your presence all about the room
But I do not find you.

You are somewhere else.
