the sky so dramatic. some clouds
staining surface like scum
on the side of a beer-
glass but most of it blue
as a teatowel, whipping on a line.

on the bridge by my balcony
some teenagers drink. some stand
on the handrail, throw t-shirts
to friends and then throw
themselves into the water.
the sky stains their bodies
like biro on fidgeting

fingers. the shadow of buildings
in rank on each side
of the bridge. yells crowd horizons
while birds above search
through the shallows for fresh-
water crabs. I'm lucky
to live here – my window
is open to space. is dramatic

alive and particular. I finish
my cigarette, light up a 2nd
one. moments hang; birds
above pavements and boats.
