Education

By Ranjana Jaiswal

Education

My mother and I
Used to study in a school
We used to study in the same class
We used to dress in the same bag and uniform
We used to return home together from school
Hunger used to wait for us together on the table
Dreams were woven in the dense hours of the night
Hopes were adorned with the first ray of dawn
With a cup of coffee
With endless debates
I climbed stairs year after year
Mother also kept climbing those stairs with me
In the end, I stopped with my height
I turned around and saw that mother had also stopped
She was happy with my achievements
Because along with my education
Her journey had also come to an end.
