"Mes de los Muertos"

Starman

By John Grey

Starman

He arrived in April
in the middle of a downpour.
He had no umbrella.
The rain quickly
smothered his fire,
turned his lights gray.
He fell to the sidewalk,
an oily streak
in a large puddle.
People stepped over
or around him.
One boy, unwittingly
put his foot right down
on his remains,
had to scrape parts
of him away from
the sole of his shoe.
When the weather cleared,
and the city dried out,
all that remained were
some grains of carbon and sulfur
which were quickly swept up
by a street cleaner.
This was on a non-event in New York
but a tragedy on the planet Gonza.
