Meanwhile
back on the beach,
sand fleas feast
on my flesh
rip tides rip along
synapses of wave crests
a 40-watt bulb sun, behind
muslin curtain of mist--
a brown gull, stubby and
armless--a beak-nosed craven twerp--
stands in gold sand on
paddled-feet.
