Between Two Worlds

They rolled me wildly
Down the corridor
In the middle of the night
Laughing all the while
Then past a desk
Where a woman
Who was not a nurse
Stared at me
And then they left me
In what looked more
Like a storeroom
But was in fact
A hospital room
So I thought
I was dreaming
Though everything
Seemed more real
Than in any dream
I had ever dreamed
If somewhat off-center
I felt that I was
Somewhere between the two
Not in a dream
And not in the world
I didn’t have a name for what I felt
Or where I was
And finally I decided
That I may be dead.
Down the corridor
In the middle of the night
Laughing all the while
Then past a desk
Where a woman
Who was not a nurse
Stared at me
And then they left me
In what looked more
Like a storeroom
But was in fact
A hospital room
So I thought
I was dreaming
Though everything
Seemed more real
Than in any dream
I had ever dreamed
If somewhat off-center
I felt that I was
Somewhere between the two
Not in a dream
And not in the world
I didn’t have a name for what I felt
Or where I was
And finally I decided
That I may be dead.
