In 2001, Josh Brown talked me into participating in NaNoWriMo. I talked Sand Pilarski into joining us. It was a wonderful justification to just write and when it was over, we all wished we had more excuses to sit down and create. I happened to have a website I was just playing around with, and by April of 2002, we had talked ourselves into The Piker Press.
Three years later, we have well over fifty people writing and a readers from all over the world. Our regular contributors include first time authors and those published regularly in print. A redesigned site and a move to offer print collections to our readers are only a few of the exciting changes going on this year. Starting next issue, we will also be introducing a "Peek of the Week", a feature highlighting interesting photos, artwork or graphic design.
While the Press continues to evolve, it has become a tradition to offer a selection of past favorites for our anniversary issue. This week, therefore, the Press is packed with some noteworthy tales, nominated by staff writers — a broad sampling of firsts, bests and most memorables.
Our thanks to the writers, artists and photographers who make the Press such a celebration of creativity, and to our readers, whose positive feedback and presence makes doing this so much fun. Here's to many more years.
