March brought quite a variety of poems to the Piker Press Poetry Open. Entrants took seriously the request for poems "rhymed or unrhymed, serious or funny". Indeed, all of those types were represented, making the judging a real apples and oranges (and squid) activity.
After a couple of beers and much deliberation, the winning poem was declared to be "Dinner Etiquette" by Melanie Trent. Her poem is a clever melange of food and heartbreak, subjects near and dear to the judging staff. The winning poem appears in this issue of The Piker Press. Congratulations, Melanie!
Many thanks to all who entered. Watch for some of the other contest entries in future editions of The Piker Press.
