As a personal note, I'm always annoyed with stereotypes. The prototypical "computer geek" is actually a rare organism; most software engineers, programmers, "hackers" (using the positive connotations) and computer junkies look highly different and are just as likely to be beer-swilling frat boys, family men with a knack for yardwork and light construction, hardcore motorcycle enthusiasts, career women, housewives or foxy girrrls.
That being said and done, it's still a fun stereotype. And you can't make a joke involving HTML ASCII character entities without snorking. I'm pretty sure that's a law of physics.
