Wood chips litter the carpet
I watch a spider stagger past
Not knowing how he came
To this warm place
Evicted from his woodstack shelter
Revived by the house's warmth
Bitter temperatures
Evoked in him a fatal resignation
Gone were the days of summer
Inevitable his own frozen demise
Now, carried in with my wood for the fire
Summer has unexpectedly sought him out one last time
