Introducing PikerCasts

By Cheryl Haimann

The Piker Press has entered the world of podcasting with this weeks launch of PikerCasts, a weekly audio selection from the archives of the Piker Press.

The current episode of PikerCasts is located at:

http://pikercasts.pikerpress.com/index.html

There, you can listen to the current episode, or link to the archive of past episodes.

If you are already subscribing to podcasts, use the address above to subscribe to PikerCasts. We are also listed at Podcast Alley, Podcast.net, and iTunes. You can listen to current and past episodes at those sites, as well.

If you dont understand any of that, read on.

Podcasts are audio or video programs that can be transferred to an mp3 player, such as an iPod. By subscribing to a podcast, you automatically receive an update whenever a new episode of the podcast is released.

You dont need an iPod to subscribe to a podcast, though. The same software that collects podcasts for transfer to an mp3 player will also let you play podcasts on your computer.

One of the best-known programs for podcast (and music) management is iTunes, and it comes preloaded on some computers. There are other programs, though, such as Juice and Yahoo Podcasts, that will allow you to subscribe to podcasts and listen to them on your computer.

Remember, though, you only need to get software if you want to subscribe to the podcast and receive automatic updates. You can still listen anytime at the PikerCasts home page or at the directory sites.
