Night Rain
Bright moon lights dark nightscape
Black clouds come unbidden to mar the beauty
White light fights dark sadness
Fights until rain falls from the forsaken sky
The darkness wins, the world goes dark
Moon has retreated to its faraway lair
Nighttime creatures wander the Earth
Without direction or companionship
Smooth water of the pond is disturbed
By the sobbing raindrops
No longer sad, the darkness, now angry
Streaks of light crack the night to pieces
The world changes, is cold and wet
Mud clings to anything braving the drizzle
Slowing life to a standstill
Shivering, stuck, rivulets of cold cover everything
The storm is now tired, shakes its sopping coat once more
An empty victory over a foe
Who would not fight
It fades away, afraid of the sun
The sleeping world opens its eyes
Wet, worn, weary, it wakes
To start another day of glorious sunshine
With the painful memory of the darkness
only a rainstorm away.
