Those Who Find Waldo Instead of Jesus Are Hardly To Blame

By Ryan Quinn Flanagan

Those Who Find Waldo Instead of Jesus are Hardly to Blame

Vomit
falls down the stairs
of my mouth

and soon we are married

like the pride
to the watering
hole

nothing too far away

cars driven to junkyard death
while injection site Jumbotrons
are transferred to university
microfiche

the burden and the beast
and origin myths like waking up
again

a new pillow
that denim hiccup immediacy
of surprise

Japanese love hotels
with lust for hand
soap

cracked spines
for the chiropractor
of books

and I am not a puritan

those who find Waldo
instead of Jesus
are hardly to blame

they are young
and devoid of competent
instruction

if coupons have a chance
to redeem themselves
than people should too

even this late in the game

which means there is hope
even if you disbelieve it;

hope
because I say so
and this is my poem

and you have read
this far...

it is not pretty
it is not anything at all
but chance

because
there is nothing
else.
