Another Soulless Dance
Emptied of pleasure
the music's dead pulse
mirrors our smiles.
Never quite sure
which lie's the truth
so we say very little.
My hand faintly on her
as we spin a circle
stringent in form.
Each pivot a trap
while our friends
look lost in amnesia.
Far more faithful to
their drinks than
to each other.
The music swells
then stops we
catch our breath.
Air heavy like ice
she wants to escape
when the cake is cut.
"I give it three years"
says the groom's best
friend eyeing the bride.
"That long?" I smile
giving it two/ wearing
the 3d glasses provided.
