Friday Evening

By Dharmpal Mahendra Jain

Friday Evening

After so many years
Friday evening arrives.
Pits, valleys, and the plains of time
all disappear backstage
and suddenly start opening
as the doors of desire creak.

While I wait for you,
the shine of light becomes dampish,
waving goodbye to the sun.
Ants moving in a queue
carry their share of gigabytes.
Swimming birds hold
drops of water in their beaks.
A squirrel munches a pear,
staring at me.
Wind, carrying the strands of hair
of an unknown maiden,
moves around me.
Things like that, though minor,
keep me busy all this time.

Eyes get stuck anywhere.
Heart keeps humming the same song.
So many memories melt together, and
happiness trickles down my eyes.

Enough is enough.
Time seems to stop while I wait.
Just a note,
and all I look for is you
on Friday evening.
