Literary Wish List
I want to drink like Faulkner,
and write like Fitzgerald.
To go out like Hemingway,
with a blast, double-barreled.
To have passion like Capote,
or a hard-ass like Mailer.
I think of Hart Crane,
courting a drunken sailor.
I want to soak up life,
like dear old St. Jack,
returning always to the womb,
of stately Mother Kerouac.
I want mythic recluse,
like Pynchon and Salinger.
Safe in the assumption,
there'll never be a challenger.
