I Want to Listen
When I read about 'being offended' in books
you were not there with me at that time.
I learnt its synonyms as well back then,
but your name was not there among them.
Had you been there in the dictionary
your meaning would be explained
in simple terms
and you could be easily understood.
But it is so complicated now.
You are right when you say
'Life is not a book'
for there are many a thing
in this world beyond words.
All that you want to say
without binding in a language,
I would gladly listen to now.
Please talk to me.
Let it simply be on the phone to ask
if I felt like opening the tiffin today,
about the number of 'likes' there were for your dress,
that the moist air has made your hair sticky yet again,
that ...
that ...
Your silence represents you are upset.
Just keep talking, please,
I want to listen to all you say.
The doors are left ajar
to let you know that
I am waiting here inside.
And also, because
the wind you tease on your way
reaches here before you.
The kettle is restless on a low flame.
The fragrance of tea
is waiting for you to join.
My arms have learnt to do
only one thing properly.
And today from birds, I have learnt
how to chirp as well.
You do come, thankfully,
I want to listen to all you say.
