On Writing
I got a book published --
a thin volume of poems
less than fifty pages.
The editor told me
that pain begets poetry,
and that if I were to ooze
a full length collection,
I would have to file
my rages
and chisel them
into verse.
But how can I know
a hundred heartaches
when I am barely thirty?
I pray I find
pain so sublime
that my book grows
a spine
thick enough
to bear my name.
