Soul
A quiet Sunday morning,
church in session—
I do not go
to church
any more, maybe
I should.
My soul is my religion
said Josephine Baker.
I think I have one
(a soul)
I must;
I wonder if the hawk overhead
has one too?
I doubt it:
dogs probably do,
maybe cats, though
that is debatable;
members of Congress, that
is questionable;
do murderers lose theirs?
Janitors do.
And assistant-managers.
And High School vice-principals.
