And we need more of them

Author’s note: The poem is based on a news feature, ‘Girl Power’, published in Hindustan Times, dated March 9, 2010, written by this poet. The story had reference to a survey, “Marketing Achievements and the Challenges Faced by Women Entrepreneurs: Delhi & NCR”, released in 2009 by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in collaboration with Hanns Seidei Foundation of Germany.
According to figures mentioned in the survey quoting Census findings, in 1981 there used to be 5.2 percent self-employed women in the country. The figure was 11.2 percent in 2001. If the trend continued there would be 20 percent women entrepreneurs in next 10 years, the survey predicted. Today, however, as per my preliminary net research, 13.76 percent of the total entrepreneurs in India are women.
