James Jones First Novel Fellowship

The thirteenth James Jones First Novel Fellowship is open to all United States citizens who have not previously published a novel. Novellas, short story collections and novels in prograss are all eligible for the competition.

This award was developed in James Jones' name "to honor the spirit of unblinking honesty, determination, and insight into modern culture exemplified by the late James Jones, author of From Here to Eternity and other prose narratives of distinction." Last year the contest received almost 600 manuscripts for consideration.

Submissions must include a two-page outline of the entire novel and the first 50 pages of the novel in progress. The entry fee is $20.00. For more submission guidelines and information, go to http://www.wilkes.edu/humanities/jones.asp

The award is $10,000. The deadline is March 1, 2005.
